Advanced Placement and Honor Courses
are offered at RCHS in specific subject areas, such
as Social Studies, Math, Science, English, French and Spanish. Students
can earn college credits or waive certain courses depending upon their
scores and their school of attendance. Last year we added AVID
(Advancement Via Individual Determination), designed to help under-achieving
high school students prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities.
Academics
Rancho Cotate High School hosts an outstanding high school
program with academically rigorous courses, innovative electives,
and award-winning art, music and journalism programs. We also offer
extensive CTE classes such as animation, web design, accounting,
digital photography,video production, and a full range of
autoshop and woodshop classes.

General Information
BULLETIN
The bulletin is the main form of communication at Rancho Cotate High School. It contains important news of club meetings, athletic events, student activities, scholarships, etc. Check out NEWS link.
CLOSED CAMPUS
Rancho Cotate High School has a closed campus policy for all students. Once students arrive at school, they may not leave without permission and a pass from the attendance office. Off campus privileges are granted only during lunch to 11th and 12th grade students with a valid identification card.
IDENTIFICATION CARDS
Each student will be issued a student identification card free of charge. (Please note that all students are required to get their picture taken). For reasons of safety, all students are required to carry their student ID card at all times and to present the card when requested to do so by any school employee or public safety office. If a student loses his/her ID card, a new one must be obtained in the main office for a $5.00 fee.
ID CARDS SERVE AS LIBRARY CARDS, INTERNET ACCESS CARDS, AND MUST BE PRESENTED TO ENTER A DANCE AND LEAVE CAMPUS AT LUNCH.
LIBRARY
The library is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 - 3:00 and during the morning break and lunch period. Student ID cards serve as library cards. Students are able to check out books for two weeks. A fine of 10 cents per day will be charged for overdue books. (see our Library Page.)
MESSAGES AND DELIVERIES
No messages for students will be taken except in cases of an emergency when requested by the parent/guardian. Deliveries of notes, flowers, balloons, messages etc. during instructional hours are not permitted. Parents please do not call your child on his/her cell phone during the instructional school day. All of these interruptions severely compromise the teaching environment.
PARKING
Students may on park in designated spaces in the student parking lot located at the northwest corner of the campus. Students may not park in any staff parking area. A vehicle must be registered with the Attendance Office and display a parking permit before it will be allowed to park on campus. Due to limited parking space, parking permits will only be issued to the first 360-11th and 12th grade students. A fee of $10.00 is charged for a parking permit. If you lose your parking permit, there will be a $10.00 fee to replace it. Illegally parked vehicles will be tagged and may be towed or cited. Parking on school grounds is a privilege, not a right. Students who violate the parking rules will lose their parking privileges.

The office phones are for official use only.
TEXTBOOKS
Textbooks will be provided free of charge to students as needed in individual classes. Students are responsible for returning textbooks checked out to them. In the event a textbook is lost or damaged, the student will either be charged for damages or for the full replacement cost of the textbook.
VISITORS
Students may not bring guests to school; however, parents and guardians are always welcome. All visitors are required to sign in at the front desk in the main office and are required to be escorted to their destination and to wear a visitor's pass at all times. Rancho students may not visit other school campuses.
WORK PERMITS
It is against the law for students under the age of eighteen to work without a work permit. Work permit request forms are available in the guidance office. To obtain a work permit a student must have passed 20 credits the previous semester, must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average, good attendance and approval from an administrator. After a student has received a work permit, the student's scholastic and attendance records will be inspected regularly. Work permits may be revoked for poor attendance or poor grades, and school disciplinary infractions.
Extra-Curricular
Students have opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sports and extra curricular activities. At this time, we have over forty organizations on campus and offer more than eighteen different sports.
